I have a crush...it runs pretty deep...it has been going on for quite some time....now it might not be the kind of crush that you may be thinking...it is with the man above, but it is not for his dashing good looks...I have a Design Crush on Miles Redd.

When I got home last night after a l...o...n...g day at the office, I was gleeful to find a shiny new issue of Veranda. As if by magic, the magazine flipped open to the page above and I almost burst with happiness. I mean have you seen a more beautiful room????

I apologize for the quality of the images as I scanned them from my actual issue, but Redd may have reached perfection! Those drapes! The zebra ottoman, the mantle, the soft green walls, the fabrics, the scarlet lamp shade. Amazing.

Those canary yellow walls are stunning. I adore the mix of the rug, the red sofa, the patterned draperies, and the animal print pillows. Redd has a daring, unapologetic use of color and pattern that rarely achieves success. He not only reaches it, he blows it away.

On a separate note, I would like to congratulate Veranda on the most stunning cover of a design magazine in quite sometime. I love the simplicity of no wording and the gorgeous green walls. Beautiful.

Stripes, They Are Everywhere...

I love to use stripes in my design schemes for my clients. In fact, I have even had a paper hanger I use frequently tell me it is "my signature trademark". I am not sure about that, but it did make me reflect on previous work and I do incorporate them a lot. They just work so well in all situations.

This is a nursery I did a few years ago. My clients moved into this home and most, if not all, of the ceilings were painted really strong colors. It was overwhelming to them to have to paint every ceiling, so I made them work in most rooms. Here I quieted the strength of the blue with these soft tone-on-tone painted stripes and worked the ceiling color into the painted mural.

This is one of my favorite carpets and I am considering using it in my house. It is a multi-colored wool stripe and it looks great on my client's stairs from their lower level. It tied all of the colors from the room together and has a fun Caribbean feel.

In this client's home, I decided to have the paper hanger hang the striped paper horizontally for a really fun look. (Yes, he is still talking to me, barely) We also painted the existing oak cabinet this bright coral pink to compliment the paper. These client's got married in the Carribean and wanted their home to reflect that style.

This is the Living Room from the movie "Somethings Gotta Give" and I dream about this striped rug a night. I just love how it grounds the room and pulls everything together. I could move into that house and not change a thing. Someday....

This is the Kate Spade store in NYC and I just love this crazy use of stripes. So fun and animated.

Nothing like a preppy, striped, grosgrain ribbons. They look great as trim on pillows or drapery panels or used as ties. They add a freshness to anything basic.

The simplicity of a striped Roman shade is wonderful. The width of this stripe is perfection for the style of this room. Any narrower and it would look youthful and wider it would be too contemparary.

This is another great use of a horizontal stripe by Miles Redd. (A fav designer I have mentioned before.) The room feels modern and fresh, but still beachy.

I love stripes in all colors, sizes, vertical, horizontal, mitered, diagonal, floor, ceiling, pillows, walls...you get the point.

For the Love of Teal

First, I would like to apologize for lack of posts last week. My computer went to electronic heaven and it was a process to get a new one and get it up and running.

I am loving teal right now! It is hard for me to even except this fact as I grew up in the 80's and really thought I had had my fill of Teal. But it is back and seems fresher, cleaner. Possibly because it is not being paired with rose and burgundy????

The rooms above was done by a designer I admire greatly, Miles Redd. He lacquered the walls which gives them a wonderful glow. I would love to spend a sleepy Sunday in this room with my stack of magazines, one of the 3 books I am reading right now, and a great, endless cup of coffee. (and Oliver of course)

The bathroom pictured above is a perfect example of how you can add a burst of teal in any space. With all of the clean white tile and beadboard it is the perfect splash of color. The hint of yellow is fantastic with it.

This cozy drawing room in rich, dark teal was done by designer Suzy Hoodless. It is warm, inviting, and comfortable. I'm loving the red lamp shade and all of the gold framing with the teal.

This bedroom is so fantastical! It is over the top in all the right ways. I love, love, love the combo of the teal with the orange chinoiserie toile. The room was designed by San Fransisco based designer, Kendall Wilkinson and was featured in Traditional Home.

Here is a shot of the bed wall which shows off the decorative painting on top of the glazed painted paneling. The white shades with black accent are perfection on the teal lamps.

The Dining Room above showcases the striking floral paper from Harlequin. I recently showed this paper in another colorway to my client and just love it. She chose a different paper, but I was secretly rooting for this one.

How gorgeous is that chandelier???
